Why try Square Dancing?

YOU CAN HAVE FUN, MAKE NEW FRIENDS,EXERCISE, REDUCE STRESS, IMPROVE MEMORY SKILLS  ALL WHILE DANCING TO GREAT MUSIC!

Here’s what our dancers have to say:

E.W. ( a new dancer) says , “I have never danced in my life but after just a few lessons with Wendie I felt comfortable and confident. she’s patient and encouraging and we all had fun. Thanks Wendie. Now I am a committed square dancer.”

B & M ( active club members ) say, “We did not start square/round dancing until we were retired. We were not sure what to expect once the classes were finished. In addition to exercise for the aging brain and body, we found an entire new life….of wonderful people we would never have met outside of dancing: a healthy fun time visiting many communities on the island;being welcomed any place we have travelled, into dances and the dance community in Canada and the USA. We soon discovered there is much more to the basics so we never stop learning  or being challenged.”

M.M. ( an active club member) says “I have been dancing for over 20 years with the Amalgam-Eighters. I was relieved when I could join square dancing as a “single” since my partner doesn’t like dancing. Later on I learned the “beau” (mans) part to help balance the number of women to men dancers. This a community of friendship, joy and laughter. And we get to know other dancers when we gather in  other places than Nanaimo. I love wearing ruffles, and costumes. Some people prefer a simpler mode of dress. All are welcome!”

M.C.( a new dancer) says “Wendie’s unique skills and sense of humour together with her encyclopedic knowledge of square dancing music and traditions helped to calm my nervousness and made the experience flow beautifully.”
